11/11-14/08
It rained extremely hard this past week so Tuesday we all worked on finding information on our objects. Wednesday we started watching National Treasure 2 from the archeological view point which i believe was very beneficial to the class we finished the movie on Friday and look forward to start digging next week.

We stayed in the classroom today and cleaned all of the things we had found the previous week. It wasn't as laid back as usual because we had so much stuff to clean. Our group glued the marble plate we found weeks ago back together and our silver bowl/cup. The other groups cleaned off a household god and different parts of the statue. We also found a shattered plate that we a working on putting back together. We have to write papers on some of the objects that we have found and hopefully will learn more about the history we have uncovered.

Today is the end of the week I cant wait for the weekend this has been a very stressful week. We surprisingly got a lot done today we totally leveled out the square. We also did not cheat the system this entire week and actually dumped at the dump site. It actually gave a sense of accomplishment because we moved dirt and we moved it fast the correct way.

We got a lot of work done today. We leveled out and fund a lot of ancient items today. We are getting closer to the floor and articulating the pillar we found the previous week. Today we found a silver bowl/cup, about the size of your fist. We also found an ancient plate in the very corner of our square partially in the balk. We also found a glass, it is a light shade of blue looks as though it was used as a decorative or a wine glass. We had a great day today and worked extremely hard and fast. Derek didn't stop working the entire time we were out digging.

Today is Tuesday we dont have very long to do dig, but today our group was confronted with cheating the system. We have been dumping our dirt next to our actual square. Our supervisor was actually very cool about the whole situation and only required us to clean up the mess. Our group is doing a lot better and we are all looking forward to tomorrow to make a lot of progress. The Alpha team found a household god today and are getting closer and closer to the floor of their square.

Today was a pretty successful day we got a lot done, cleaning M.C's and such. Our group has not found too much lately so we helped the other gropus clean up a few things and then picked subjects on which we are to research. We are not positive on the details of the project yet but i chose loom weights. They seem to be very abundant and common.

Today was a short class in which our supervisor wanted us to level out again. We worked pretty good today but not as good as we usually do. We are studly no one can dig like team bravo digs. I cant wait for next weeks adventure to see what we will uncover in the famous Tel'Yar.

Today is our only long day of digging we got a lot of work done today. We almost fully uncovered the pillar which we found the previous day. We totally leveled out our square. During the class period today one of our art classes came and watched us dig. Our supervisor led them around and showed them what was going on. Half way through the day we had shake break which was very enjoyable. My chocolate shake hit the spot.

Today was once again a short day. We got a lot of work done and moved a lot of dirt very quickly. We found the start of what we think to be some sort of pillar. We articulated the tip of the pillar and leveled out or square we are getting close to what seem to be the floor, stopping point in or dig. In which we will start a new square and begin the process all over again.

Today is monday and as usual was a very short day. We did not dig today but we had younger kids come around and look at our squares. We taught different process of archaeology. Many people think archaeologists just dig holes with shovels. This is completely wrong we use a pick for the hard work, of breaking up and moving dirt quickly. Then once we found what most likely will be a very fragile item we use smaller tools such a a patiche and trowel. These are used for articulating, in which you pull dirt away from the object with out removing it from the ground. The young kids had a lot of fun today and i think it was very beneficial and taught them a lot.

10/22/08
Today is our long period we have about an hour and a half to dig and we generally make a lot of progress. We are trying to go down about 20 inches today, but at the same time stay level. Our supervisor offered us milkshakes the next long period if every group worked hard. This got all of the group to work much harder than usual. Everyone made a lot of progress and we uncovered what we believe to be the base of a statue. We also decided to play a practical joke and all of the groups we bottomed and one of the buckets and filled it with dirt. The reaction wasn't worth all of our work to bottom out the bucket.

We went out to the dig site today. We don't have much time but we got a good bit done we finished replacing our rubber bands. Today we extricated the the marble plate that we found. Extrication is the process of taking an object that we find out of the dirt. In this process we have to photograph and tag the item. The plate seems to be pretty priceless.

Today is Monday its a short day and we are just setting up our squares again. We used rubber bands to mark off our squares. A square is specified section in a field where your group digs. Today we were switching out the rubber bands for tires. The rubber bands dry rotted the first time they got wet the tires should stand up to the conditions much better. All of the groups finished what needed to be done for the day.

Today is my first day back to archeology in nearly a week. Our senior class went on a bonding retreat called Camp Eagle. We did not dig today, we just stayed in the class room and were informed of our new stratigraphy top sheets. Stratigraphy is the heights we take of our dig sites. It shows our progression and proves if we are digging level.

Today was a very short day we have a football game so we didn't do too much we went down a few inches but mostly just leveled out today which was good for our group. Leveling out gives you a sense of accomplishment which is always nice. I am starting to really enjoy this class.

Today was block day so we had an hour and half and got a lot day in that amount of time. Today we found a tiny jugglet which is a small pitcher. Our leader was very excited about our find just as the rest of our group. We are starting to have a lot of fun and another reason wednesday is my favorite day to dig is because of fruit break.

9/30/08
Today we once again stayed in the class room and cleaned the pottery and m.c. we have found over the past few weeks. We are starting to form really good balks and still are making tons of progress. We kind of goofed off today and I think our grade will suffer because of this.

The attitude with in our group has jumped up leaps and bounds. Derek is the new square leader and we have a great program going and we are working very well together.

I can finally say I am no longer square "leader," has a pretty nice ring to it don't ya think? Being square leader I get blamed for everything, and its a great feeling knowing you do not have to tell others how to dig a whole.

Today is the last day of me being square leader thank God, I hate it. I do not like telling people what to do especially when it is not something I am passionate about. I can be a "leader" in something like football or baseball but not in digging holes. I tried just didn't work out every time my group does something wrong I do pushups its very amusing i throughly enjoy it : )! So like I said thank God today is my last day. We did however get work done today we went down about 40cm and found what seems to be the top of a wall. It is now believed we are in some sort of home.

9/23/08
Today started off with us finishing off our balk lines. We were able to dig but did not get too much done considering we only had 45min. Today we tried to go down about 15cm but were unable to get it done. We stayed level for the most part but our groups teamwork could use a little shove in the right direction.

Well today is our first day back from our extended weekend. Hurricane Ike hit just about a week ago now. Everything is getting back to normal and the power is back. The dig site has minor damage and a large amount of erosion. Not enough to set anything back though. Today we just worked on setting our squares back up and trying to get our balks once again flat. We only had a short time so imagine we will be doing the same ting tomorrow.
